Supercell Cloud ‘Cinemagraphs’ by a Storm Chasing Photographer
Photographer Mike Hollingshead has gained quite a bit of exposure online for his jaw-dropping photos of storms across the United States. We featured his work here in January of 2014.
Recently, Hollingshead has begun to branch out his work into a new direction: cinemagraphs.
Here’s one he created recently based on the image above of a supercell storm moving across the landscape near West Point, Nebraska:
Hollingshead tells us that he first decided to explore these animated images when he saw examples online that other people had created using his photographs. This image isn’t a ‘cinemagraph‘ per se. Rather than use a video or multiple frames as his starting point, Hollingshead creates his animations based on single static photographs.
Here are a couple more examples (there are quality issues with the resizing. you can find original, larger versions here and here).
Hollingshead says that he plans on releasing more of these moving versions of his photos in the coming days.

What if you could print your selfies immediately after taking them? That’s the kind of problem French startup Prynt has been trying to solve for almost a year, and the company has produced just the kind of Polaroid-like mobile printer that mobile photographers have been waiting for. Prynt has come up with a smartphone accessory that acts as a case and photo printer for the handset, and it will be available on Kickstarter for $99 at some point after CES 2015, according to TechCrunch.

Once an iPhone or Android device is inserted in the Prynt case, users can print some of their pictures on the spot.
The case fits 10 sheets of paper and has a battery that can be used to print up to 30 images. Special printing paper will be ordered directly from the company from within the application, and one sheet of paper will cost 30 cents.
In addition to quickly printing photos from a smartphone, the Prynt app will also have an additional feature — one that’s even more interesting, perhaps — as it packs virtual reality elements. In addition to capturing images, the Prynt app will also capture a short video and bundle it with that picture. Once it’s printed and passed along to friends and family, they’ll be able to also access that video snapshot by simply looking at the physical picture inside the Prynt app using the cameras on their own devices.
It’s not exactly clear when the Prynt photo printing smartphone case will be launched on Kickstarter, but a video further explaining the gadget follows below.

Sony Announces Pro Support Service: Quick Repairs, Loaners and More for Pro Photographers
As more and more professional photographers make the jump to Sony (for one reason or another), it only makes sense that the electronics giant start offering professional services along the line of Canon’s CPS program and Nikon’s NPS program.
And that is exactly what the company has decided to do. As of this morning, Sony Imaging has officially launched what it’s calling the Sony PRO Support service program.
The premium support service costs $100/year to enroll and features dedicated phone support, free camera maintenance, 3-day repair turn-around services and even loaner cameras for when yours is in for repair.
Beyond repair and maintenance support, the PRO Support service program also gives you access to try-before-you-buy ‘Evaluation Loaners,’ meaning even the most expensive gear Sony has to offer can be given a test-run for free as long as your membership is in good standing.
The one caveat is that not just anyone can enroll in Sony’s program. There are two requirements.
One: you must be the proud owner of two Sony Alpha full-frame interchangeable lens cameras and three Sony Zeiss and/or G-Series lenses; and two: you must be able to prove that you’re a working professional photographer, be it on your own or as an employee under a larger business.
If you meet the criteria, however, and you’re looking for extra benefits as a Sony user, the program looks extremely worthwhile. For more information or if you’d like to enroll in the program, head on over to Sony’s PRO Support service program site.
